Today marks an exciting day for filmmakers worldwide as Creo announces the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, a major new program for short films set up to empower original and creative voices within the filmmaking industry.
Sponsored by Sony, the annual competition is free to enter and includes three competitions: Filmmaker, Student Filmmaker and Future Format. Rewarding those with a fresh perspective on storytelling, the Awards provide a gateway for the development of creative excellence.
So, why enter? What sets this award apart is its exceptional prize. All winning and shortlisted filmmakers will be flown to Los Angeles in February 2023 for an awards ceremony at the historic Sony Pictures studio lot in Culver City, California. Following the awards night, all 30 winners and shortlist will attend a two-day program of workshops, screenings and panel discussions. Guided by Sony Pictures executives and top experts in their fields, filmmakers will learn a vast range of topics including pitching to legal, to working with talent agencies and using cutting-edge technologies including animation and CGI.
Entering couldn’t be easier as videos can be shot on any kind of device or camera. Filmmakers don’t need to upload an MP4 file, they just need a URL to where their film is uploaded (this can be on Vimeo or YouTube, for example). For Filmmaker and Student Filmmaker, submissions must be between 5 to 20 minutes in length, for Future Format they can be between 2 to 5 minutes. Before you enter, make sure you read the rules and have a description of your submission – plus a selection (1 to 5) of jpegs that illustrate your project.
Enter before December 13, 07:00 (CT).
